Salmon Sisters and KHLT

Salmon Sisters is a Homer-based company run by co-founders, fishermen, and sisters, Emma and Claire, with support from their small yet mighty team. Their family makes their livelihood harvesting wild fish from Alaskan waters and their company markets Alaska seafood in their local brick-and-mortar shops and their e-commerce site. Emma and Claire were some of the first participants of KHLT’s Fish Need Land Too field trips back in 2018. The duo and their crew continue to eagerly learn how to be good stewards of land for salmon and to help educate visitors passing through their shops about the importance of healthy coastal ecosystems.
Salmon Sisters supporting Kachemak Heritage Land Trust is a no-brainer — KHLT protects land that is critical for baby salmon to grow up healthy and strong and then those baby salmon venture to the ocean to live out their adult lives. When they return to spawn, many are harvested by fishermen like Claire and Emma. As the Salmon Sisters brand continues to grow, it’s yet another opportunity to spread the word that fish need land, too. The work Emma and Claire do relies on the health of salmon, the namesake and soul of their company.

Salmon Sisters gives a portion of their proceeds to support efforts to help protect wild salmon habitat in Alaska. This year, they donated to KHLT from their in-store proceeds on Alaska Wild Salmon Day (August 10th) and have designed a new hoodie, proceeds from which are donated to KHLT’s conservation efforts. Without salmon there is no Salmon Sisters!
