Marie McCartyExecutive DirectorA Homer resident since 1996, Marie has a B.A. in Human Ecology from College of the Atlantic in Maine, a Juris Doctorate, and a Masters of Studies of Law degree from Vermont Law School. Before moving to Alaska with her family she was a practicing attorney in New Hampshire, focusing on healthcare while working for New Hampshire Legal Assistance, and completed an internship with the Conservation Law Foundation while completing her Masters degree. Marie joined KHLT’s staff in 1997 and worked as the Development Director before becoming Executive Director in June 2008. She is a member of the Homer Rotary Club, is an avid ice hockey mom and team member, and can be spotted around town being tugged along by her malamute, Orca. |

Mandy BernardConservation DirectorMandy joined the staff of KHLT in February 2011. Her background includes serving as a city planner in Cheyenne, Wyoming, and being selected for a Colorado Conservation Trust Fellowship in Granby, Colorado. She has a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science, and a earned a Masters degree in Urban and Regional Planning with a focus on the connection between local comprehensive plans, land use planning, and conservation easements. Mandy researches and evaluates potential land protection projects, participates in easement negotiations, creates baseline documentation and management plans for properties protected by KHLT, and manages KHLT’s land stewardship activities. She is an avid baker and enjoys cooking, homebrewing, and coffee roasting almost as much as she loves playing in the snow with her husband and two big dogs. |

Jamie GRANTDevelopment CoordinatorJamie joined the KHLT staff in September 2011 as the Development Coordinator. She has a B.S. in Natural Resource Management and Environmental Chemistry and a certificate in GISci from the University of Colorado. She has background experience as a business owner and as a founding board member of a Colorado non-profit. Jamie will be working with Executive Director Marie McCarty and the Board of Directors and the Development Committee to help increase outreach efforts and funding resources for KHLT’s current and future stewardship goals. She loves to read and paint on quiet days, but prefers to be outdoors gardening, fishing, hiking, skiing and playing with her two dogs. |

Sheryl OhlsenAccounting ManagerHailing from Oregon, Sheryl Ohlsen arrived in Alaska in May 2008 with her husband and two daughters. She has worked with for-profit and non-profit organizations as a business consultant and bookkeeper for the past 20 years, both as an employee and through her own consulting business. Sheryl joined the KHLT staff in June 2009. When Sheryl is not at a desk employing her accounting skills, she can usually be found wandering through the native vegetation, identifying and wildcrafting herbs to use in teas, creams and salves. She also runs her own business, Ohlsen's Little Shop of Herbs. |
