2004 Membership Survey Summary
In October 2003, membership surveys were mailed to KHLT’s current members. Eight-four surveys were returned, giving a 95% confident level +/-10. A summary of the results is below.
1. How long have you been a member of Kachemak Heritage Land Trust? Circle one answer. The vast majority of responses came from members who have been a member of KHLT for three years or more.
2. How did you first hear about Kachemak Heritage Land Trust? Circle one answer. Most first heard of KHLT through a friend or a peer, or through the newspaper or other media story. Several responders first heard of KHLT during its early, founding years.
3. Why are you a member of Kachemak Heritage Land Trust? Circle all that apply. The most common responses are listed in order: 1) belief in the organization, 2) no other group is doing the same work, 3) organization’s reputation, 4) civic duty/community contribution; 5) to stay informed, and 6) to receive bi-annual newsletter.
4. Which three of the following current KHLT projects interest you most? Please rank your top three projects in order of priority, with #1 being your highest priority. The top responses are listed in order: 1) Conservation easements on property, 2) Homer Town Square Project, 3) Diamond Creek Project, and 4) Calvin and Coyle and Homestead Trail. All projects were ranked among the top three by at least some members.
5. Which four resources are you most concerned about/interested in preserving on the Kenai Peninsula? Please rank your top four areas of interest/concern in order of priority, with #1 being your highest priority. The top responses are listed in order: 1) Fish and wildlife habitat, tied for 2) and 3) downtown open space and recreational lands; 4) scenic views, and 5) cultural resources. All resources were ranked among the top four by at least some members.
6. Are there any particular areas on the Peninsula where you would like to see KHLT doing more conservation work? Please list all areas that interest/concern you. The most common responses are listed in order: 1) Diamond Creek, tied for 2) Homer Central Business District, Head of Kachemak Bay, Anchor River Watershed, 3) Kenai River, 4) Beluga Slough Wetlands, and 5) Resurrection Bay.
7. In addition to supporting KHLT as a member, please select all ways that you have been involved with KHLT in the past year. Members were involved by reading the newsletter, voting in Board elections, and sharing info with family, friends and peers. Several also volunteered, donated beyond membership, and participated in KHLT events.
8. What method of communication do you prefer? Please circle one. The vast majority of KHLT members prefer conventional mail as a method of communication.
Several members provided additional feedback on priorities, interests, ways to improve qualify of KHLT’s work, etc. The Board and staff are reviewing these results and using this feedback from our members as a tool to help guide in planning for KHLT’s conservation work in the years ahead.
